Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Mourns Tooro King Oyo

Hoima: Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom has joined the people of Tooro in mourning the death of His Majesty Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who died on Thursday night in the United States.
The Kingdom says the death of the Tooro monarch is an immeasurable loss because Bunyoro and Tooro share a common ancestry, bloodline and history spanning generations.
Addressing journalists on Friday afternoon at the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom headquarters along Rukurato Road in Hoima City, Owek. Andrew Byakutaga Ateenyi, the Kingdom’s Prime Minister (Omuhikirwa), said the institution had received the news with deep shock.
Byakutaga conveyed condolences on behalf of the Omukama of Bunyoro Kitara, Dr. Solomon Gafabusa Iguru I, the Royal Family and the people of Bunyoro to Queen Best Kemigisha, the Royal Family and the people of Tooro.
“We have received with deep shock the official communication from our sister Kingdom of Tooro about the passing of His Majesty Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV,” Byakutaga said.
He said the death should not be viewed simply as the loss of a neighbouring monarch, emphasizing the historical and ancestral ties between the two kingdoms.
“It is not just the loss of a neighbouring King because Tooro and Bunyoro share one ancestry, one blood, and one history. Therefore, when Tooro mourns, Bunyoro joins in as well,” he said.
Byakutaga described the late King Oyo as a monarch who cherished his people, promoted unity and encouraged hard work during his 31-year reign.
The Prime Minister called upon all Banyoro to stand with their brothers and sisters in Tooro through prayer, unity and calm during the mourning period.
He also confirmed that a delegation from Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom will travel to Karuziika Palace in Fort Portal City to commiserate with the Tooro Royal Family once funeral arrangements are announced by the Tooro Kingdom administration.
“We call upon all Banyoro to join our brothers and sisters in Tooro in prayer, unity and calm during this difficult period,” Byakutaga said.
