Bunyoro Kingdom education minister condemns harassment of candidates in pursuit of grades
“This approach is not good. It instills fear in learners instead of promoting true understanding and love for learning,” he said.

Hoima: The Bunyoro Kingdom Minister for Education, Mr. Jackson Wabyona, has condemned the increasing harassment of school candidates by teachers in the name of academic excellence.
Speaking over the weekend during a school leavers’ party for Senior Four, Senior Six, and Primary Seven candidates of Central Schools, Mr. Wabyona noted that pressuring students through intimidation harms the learning process.
“This approach is not good. It instills fear in learners instead of promoting true understanding and love for learning,” he said.
He urged teachers to adopt a more balanced and effective method that considers both teacher performance and learner performance, rather than placing the burden solely on students.
“Some teachers may be weak in delivering content but shift all the blame onto learners. That is unfair and counterproductive,” Mr. Wabyona added.
The event also featured remarks from the School Management Committee Chairperson, Mr. Michael Mwesigwa, who praised the students for their discipline and good conduct throughout their time at school. He encouraged them to carry those values into the next phase of their lives.
“I urge you to remain disciplined and responsible individuals, whether in school or outside,” Mwesigwa advised.
Meanwhile, the school candidates expressed optimism and pledged to work hard to achieve even better academic results in 2025.
