Kamuli: Police in the Kiira Region have launched an investigation into the brutal murder of a boda boda rider, Willy Isabirye, aged 21.
His lifeless body was discovered on Friday, December 6, 2024, at Mailo Mbili near Jafra Petrol Station along Kamuli Road.
Eye witnesses, who spoke under anonymity, revealed that Willy’s body was found early in the morning around 6 a.m., showing signs of a violent attack, with visible head injuries and severe trauma.
SP James Mubi, the Kiira Region Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident. According to preliminary findings, the young rider was not killed at the location where his body was discovered.
Police suspect the murder took place elsewhere, and the body was dumped at Mailo Mbili.
Authorities are leveraging surveillance cameras and other investigative tools to track down the culprits. The body was transported to Jinja Main Referral Hospital for a post-mortem examination to aid the investigation.
SP Mubi acknowledged the rising threat of aggravated robberies in the region, particularly targeting boda boda riders. He assured the public that intensified operations are underway to address this disturbing trend.
Earlier this year in May, Kiira Region Police, supported by the Flying Squad, arrested three suspects connected to a spate of boda boda murders and motorcycle thefts in the Busoga region.
Among those apprehended were Aggrey Kazibwe of Martyr Cell, Jinja North Division, and Andrew Katende of Kayinogoka Cell. These arrests were part of efforts to dismantle criminal networks preying on boda boda operators.
As the festive season approaches, Kiira Region Police are conducting security meetings to enhance crime prevention strategies and curb incidents of theft and violence during this high-risk period.
The police have called on residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities as they work to ensure public safety.
