Police arrest suspect behind kidnaps in Kiboga
Police have recovered the phone lines used for the ransom transactions.
Kiboga: Police in Kiboga have arrested a key suspect linked to multiple kidnappings in the district.
The suspect, 25-year-old Bukenya Rashid, a nursing student at Lubaga Hospital Training School, was apprehended on October 16, 2024, following intelligence-led operations.
The suspect is a resident of Mulunga Village, Nakalama Parish, Nkandwa Subcounty in Kyankwanzi District.
According to Kawala Racheal, the Police Spokesperson for the Wamala Region, Bukenya confessed to involvement in two kidnapping cases registered as KBG CRB 642/2024 and KBG CRB 629/2024, occurring on October 5 and October 12, 2024, respectively.
‘’These cases were registered under case numbers KBG CRB 642/2024 and KBG CRB 629/2024, which occurred on October 5, 2024 and October 12, 2024, respectively, in Kiboga Town.’’
On October 5, a 4-year-old boy was kidnapped from his home in Saza, Kiboga Town, and the kidnapper demanded a ransom of one million shillings.
After negotiations, 300,000 shillings was paid, and the child was later found safe. In the second incident on October 12, a 3-year-old boy was taken, with a ransom of one million shillings demanded. A deposit of 400,000 shillings was made, leading to the child’s successful rescue.
Police have recovered the phone lines used for the ransom transactions.
Bukenya is currently held at Kiboga Central Police Station and is awaiting court proceedings. Kawala has urged parents and guardians to stay vigilant and monitor their children’s movements closely.
