Arua man arrested for defiling 4-year-old child

She left her four-year-old daughter (names withheld) at home while she attended to errands in the nearby trading center.

Arua: Police in Arua district are holding a 38-year-old man for allegedly defiling a 4-year-old child.

The incident happened on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at around 4 pm in Rivu Village, Kuluva Parish, Vurra Subcounty of Arua District.

Ms. Ejeku Eunice, 52, told this publication that she left her four-year-old daughter (names withheld) at home while she attended to errands in the nearby trading center.

Upon returning, she heard her daughter crying for help from within the residence of a neighbor, Abindu Richard, a 38-year-old peasant farmer residing in the same village.

Concerned community members quickly responded to the alarm raised by Ms. Ejeku. Upon their arrival, they were able to gain access to the location, where they discovered the victim in a vulnerable state, prompting an immediate outcry for justice.

Collins Asea, the acting West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson, explains that in response to the community’s concern, Abindu Richard was apprehended and subjected to a citizen’s intervention due to the circumstances surrounding the event.

‘’Law enforcement was promptly notified, and a team of police officials from Arua Vurra Station conducted a visit to the scene,’’ he notes.

Asea explains that the investigators undertook thorough documentation of the incident, collected relevant evidence, and ensured that both the victim and the suspect received medical attention.

He says that the victim was taken for a medical examination and subsequent treatment, while Mr. Abindu was also assessed for injuries sustained during the public reaction.

‘’Police investigations are ongoing, including gathering statements from eyewitnesses to provide a clear understanding of the event and to ensure that all parties are heard,’’ he says, adding that ‘’a formal case of aggravated defilement has been opened, reflecting the seriousness with which this matter is being treated by local authorities.’’

Asea assures the community that all necessary measures will be taken to investigate this incident thoroughly and uphold justice. ‘’It is vital for community members to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to maintain a safe environment for all,’’ he advises.
