Rev. Ateirweho enthroned as sixth Bishop of Bunyoro Kitara Diocese
Archbishop Mugalu also praised the outgoing Bishop Samuel Kahuma for stirring the diocese very well.
Hoima: Rev. Canon. Jacob Ateirweho has been enthroned as the sixth Bishop of Bunyoro Kitara Diocese, amidst pomp and glamour from thousands of witnesses.
The ceremony for the consecration of the new bishop was presided over by his Grace, the Archbishop of Uganda, Rev. Dr. Samuel Kazimba Mugalu, at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Duhaga, Hoima City.
During the consecration, Rev. Can. Jacob Ateirweho was taken through the various norms as prescribed by the Anglican Church, including taking others into service.
In his speech, his Grace, the Archbishop of Uganda, the Most Rev. Dr. Samuel Kazimba Mugalu, congratulated and welcomed the new bishop into the house of bishops, with a call on him to always seek guidance and mentorship from his predecessors if he is too successful in his pastoral term of office.
Archbishop Mugalu also praised the outgoing Bishop Samuel Kahuma for stirring the diocese very well.
In his address as the chief guest, President Museveni, who was represented by Prime Minister Robinah Nabanja, congratulated the bishop Jacob upon the throne and donated him with a brand new land cruiser vehicle plus 30 million shillings in cash to aid him in his work of serving God.
Museveni asked the new bishop to join the government in its campaign to stamp out poverty among Christians.
In his maiden address shortly after his concentration, the new Bishop of Bunyoro Kitara Diocese, Rt. Rev. Jacob Ateirweho, who was engulfed by joy and humility, thanked the almighty God, who has continued to bless him with ranks in serving the church.
He has promised to enhance spiritual growth and development among Christians, spur social and economic programs across the diocese, and most importantly, promote peace and unity amongst believers.
He utilized the same moment to thank his superiors in the Anglican Church who have mentored him up to the new rank of bishop and also commended President Museveni for supporting and gracing his consecration ceremony.
While addressing the congregation, the outgoing Bishop Samuel Kahuma congratulated his successor, Bishop Jacob, upon taking up the mantle as the sixth Bishop of Bunyoro Kitara Diocese.
He overwhelmingly thanked various stakeholders, including the central government, Bunyoro Kitara kingdom, diocesan clergy, and media fraternity, for the tremendous support they rendered to him during his pastoral service as the fifth bishop.
The event has been graced by the Bunyoro Kitara queen, the prime minister, Hoima Catholic Diocese Bishop, retired and serving Anglican Bishops, other clergymen and women, Hon. Ministers, and Members of Parliament, among other dignitaries.
