He said police are still investigating the matter and when investigations are complete, the file will be forwarded to the state attorney for sanctioning.

Masindi: Police have arrested one suspect who is alleged to have hacked Godfrey Kasigwa, a resident of Kihande1 Cell, Western Ward in the Central Division of Masindi Municipality, on July 9, 2024, leading to his death.

Fabian Baryayamba, the officer in charge of Masindi Central Police Station disclosed that, so far, one suspect has been arrested and is being detained at Masindi police station.

While addressing mourners who turned up for Kasigwa’s burial in Kihande on Monday, July 15, 2024, Baryayamba asked the members of the community who may have information leading to the arrest of more suspects to share with them.

He said police are still investigating the matter and when investigations are complete, the file will be forwarded to the state attorney for sanctioning.

Baryayamba said that before Kasigwa died, he reported a case of people who were threatening his life, but as police were investigating the report, the complainant was eventually killed. He advised Ugandans not to fight for land because the country still has large chunks of land that are not occupied.

Kasim Kabagonza, the Masindi district vice chairman, hailed local leaders and police for their efforts in ensuring that the suspect was apprehended.

Speaking at the same function, Joab Busiinge, the Masindi municipality member of parliament, advised families to avoid compacting themselves in clusters but instead look for alternative areas where they can shift and stay peacefully.

Mildred Byaruhanga, a catechist at St. James Catholic Church, appealed to Christians to repent of their sins by rejuvenating their faith in Christ.

Kasigwa died at the age of 51 on July 12, 2024, at Mulago Hospital due to a blood clot in the brain after having been beaten with a blunt object.
