Uganda Police speak out on involvement of their truck in Kenya protests
He notes that mutual respect and understanding continue to be the basis of their cooperation with the Kenyan Police.
Kampala: For the last couple of days, footage of a Uganda Police Force (UPF) fire truck has been making the rounds on social media, captured amidst protesters in Nakuru, Kenya.
However, the Uganda Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga, has refuted the claims of involvement of their truck in Kenya protests, saying it is false and malicious propaganda.
Enanga says that the truck registration number UP 9596 was captured on June 21, 2024 amidst protesters in Nakuru while heading to Uganda from.
‘’The propagandists and their co-conspirators falsified their stories, claiming the Uganda Police was involved in the recent protests in Kenya, which was false and misleading,’’ he clarified.
The police officer asserts that the facts gathered indicate that the fire truck that belongs to Masaka Central Police Station Fire and Rescue Department developed a mechanical problem in April 2024 and was transported to Nairobi, Kenya, by Isuzu Uganda for further mechanical repair.
On June 21, 2024, as the fire truck was being driven back to Uganda, its driver came across several protesters in Nakuru, who recorded it during transit. Enanga adds that the fire truck driver eventually proceeded and entered Uganda on June 21, 2024, and was captured on CCTV at Busitema at 11:49:25 a.m., en route to Masaka via Kampala.
He therefore says that the accusations that the Uganda Police deployed a firefighting truck in the recent spate of protests in Kenya are false and misleading.
‘’Our counterparts, the Kenyan Police, know that we have nothing to do with the protests. We continue to respect the sovereignty of the Republic of Kenya and its decisions.’’
Enanga notes that mutual respect and understanding continue to be the basis of their cooperation with the Kenyan Police.
