Kapelebyong: Police in Kapelebyong district have arrested the boyfriend who murdered a senior-three student of a Homeward Secondary School in Serere district.
The suspect was identified as Phillip Ajotu, who’s currently detained at the Kapelebyong central police station.
It’s alleged that on June 12, 2024, at around 0400 a.m., the accused murdered the girlfriend Scovia Apio, a resident of Sapiri Cell, Kangodo Ward, Ocaapa Town Council, Serere District.
Edson Obukulem, the acting police spokesperson for East Kyoga, confirmed his arrest this morning, saying Ajotu will answer charges of murder.
He said the relatives of the deceased attempted to attack the suspect from Kapelebyong CPS, but the police officers managed to control the commotion.
“This suspect was on the run, and I want to report that he was arrested in Kapelebyong CPS and is pending to be transferred to Serere CPS to answer his charges,” said Mr. Obukulem.
The preliminary findings indicate that the deceased person received death threats from her boyfriend Philip Ajotu on June 8, 2024, but issues were not reported to the relevant authorities.
It’s also believed that the deceased had misunderstandings with her boyfriend upon realizing that the boyfriend was in love with her best friend.
