Kangabaije pressure group rejects PAU’s contribution towards ‘Empango’

He vowed to rally the subjects of the kingdom to stand against any organization that disrespects Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom.

Hoima: The Kangabaije, a prominent pressure group in Hoima, has taken a bold action by rejecting the donation of 10 cartoons of water given to the kingdom by the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) as their contribution to the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom towards the kingdom’s 30th coronation anniversary (Empango).

Speaking to journalists on Monday, June 10, 2024, Ali Bbabi, a member of the pressure group Kangabaije, criticized the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) for its consistent disrespect towards the King and the Kingdom of Bunyoro-Kitara.

Bbabi claims that the PAU has a history of marginalizing the native population, denying them employment opportunities, and failing to invest in meaningful development projects.

‘’If the PAU does not change its approach, they will not be allowed to support any future activities in the kingdom,’’ he threatened.

Andrea Kirungi, another member of the pressure group Kangabaije, echoed Bbabi’s sentiments, emphasizing that the community is in pain and feels disrespected by the PAU’s actions.

Kirungi urged the Prime Minister of Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom, Andrew Byakutaga, to take a strong stance against the PAU’s condescending behavior.

He said they will not accept any form of belittling or marginalization from the PAU or any other entity because the kingdom demands respect and meaningful engagement.

Nicholas Musinguzi, alias Muchakaze, a passionate member of the pressure group Kangabaije, urged all Banyoro to stand firm and avoid hypocrisy in their demands for respect and dignity.

He called for the kingdom’s contribution list to be revised, removing the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) and replacing it with Banyoro subjects through Kangabaije because they have already bought 100 cartons of water that PAU gave to the kingdom and want PAU to tell them where to put them.

Sunday, Geoffrey Omubyasi, the chairman of the Kangabaije pressure group, highlighted the King’s significance as the landlord of the land where PAU operates.

He says if it weren’t for the oil in Bunyoro, PAU wouldn’t even be there, yet they have the audacity to belittle the king and kingdom while lavishing funds on Buganda.

Omubyasi vowed to rally the subjects of the kingdom to stand against any organization that disrespects Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom.

Efforts to get a comment from Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU)  by press time were futile.
