Suspect shot dead during arrest in Masindi
The shooting occurred during a scuffle that took place while attempting to arrest the deceased.
Masindi: Police in Masindi district are investigating the circumstances under which 30-year-old Asiimwe Ronald, a resident of Kinenabwa village, Kitamba Parish, Bwijanga Sub County, was shot dead by No. 53470 PC Ssenono Euginea, attached to the Bwijanga police post.
According to Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson, the shooting occurred during a scuffle that took place while attempting to arrest the deceased over an alleged case of assault that was reported at Bwijanga police post, vide 84/22/05/2024.
The incident occurred on May 22, 2024, at about 23:42 hours.
Hakiza says that the officer, along with Musinguzi Wilson, a crime preventer, booked out to effect the arrest.
It is alleged that after the shooting, the suspects fled the scene with the weapon, and later Musinguzi Wilson was arrested, while PC. Ssenono Euginea is still at large with the weapon.
The body was conveyed to the Masindi Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem, and efforts are ongoing to trace the suspect and have him arrested and prosecuted.
Hakiza appealed to members of the community to stay calm as we establish the cause of this deadly violence.
