Kikuube: Residents from the four villages of Kitole, Rwemparaki, Bujalia, and Kigwago in Buhimba Sub County in Kikuube district have a reason to smile after construction works commenced along Rwemparaki Road.
According to residents, the 5-kilometer road had spent over 20 years without being rehabilitated.
On Saturday, excitement filled the residents after the works kicked off, officially spearheaded by the area Member of Parliament for Buhaguzi East Constituency, Hon. Steven Aseera Itaza.
Andrea Byomugabi, the LC1 chairperson for Kitole village, told this online news portal that Rwemparaki Road was last rehabilitated 20 years ago.
‘’This was last rehabilitated during the regime of Rwebembera when he was still the Hoima district chairperson, and since then it has not been rehabilitated.’’
Byomugabi stressed that during the rainy season, it was difficult for people to access the road, especially farmers, to transport their produce to the market and to the roads that connect to various villages, which have a population of over 4000 people.
Shaban Sawuya Kiiza, a woman councillor representing Ruhunga parish, revealed that the poor state of the road led to a number of accidents, women giving birth on the way since they couldn’t access health centers, and many more.
Justus Isingoma, the LC3 Chairperson for Buhimba Sub County, said that the subcounty has a very big challenge with roads since they don’t have enough funds for work.
Isingoma added that the sub-county is supposed to receive 8 million shillings for the road fund, but they only received 6 million, which is not enough to construct good roads, so they had to involve their area member of parliament for support.
Steven Aseera Itaza, Member of Parliament for Buhaguzi East Constituency, revealed that a lot of complaints were being raised regarding the horrible state of the Rwemparaki road.
‘’Being one of my promises to the people of Buhaguzi East, it’s time to construct it and put first-class murram on it.’’
The politician asserted that as the area member of parliament, he decided to mobilize funds so that the impassable road that has made the community suffer for years can be constructed so that the hard-to-reach areas can be accessed.
He appreciated the Kikuube leadership for working together as a team to see that the road was constructed and people were having a better life.
Aseera disclosed that in parliament they appropriated funds for the road units, and a supplementary budget was passed for the new administrative units, starting with graders and wheel loaders, which were to be delivered by November last year, but up to now nothing has been done.
He adds that before April this year, they will receive these road units, according to the permanent secretary.
