Buliisa: Police in Buliisa district are investigating circumstances under which a woman in her mid-30s was knocked dead.
The incident happened on Thursday afternoon along Buliisa-Wasenko Road, opposite Ndandamire Primary School in Kigwera Sub-County Buliisa district.
The deceased has been identified as Prisca Anirwoth, a resident of Waaki Village in Kiganja Sub County Hoima district.
Oscar Maditrwoth, a survivor, narrated that he was carrying his sister, now deceased, on the motorcycle heading to Wanseko when the truck registration number UBM 039F knocked them from behind, and he fell on the roadside while the sister was knocked dead.
‘’I was carrying my elder sister on the motorcycle heading to Wanseko when the truck knocked us from behind. I fell on the roadside while my sister was knocked dead,’’ he explained.
Maditrwoth stressed that his deceased sister was heading to Panyimur to follow up on her fish, which was reportedly impounded by fisheries protection unit officials.
Moses Omirambe, the deceased’s brother, said that someone contacted him and informed him about the accident. ‘’I wasn’t aware of the accident; someone called me and told me that my sister has been knocked dead near Ndandamire primary school,’’ he said.
Gerald Mugume, an eyewitness, attributes the accident to reckless driving. ‘’Sometimes these drivers don’t mind other people’s lives; they overspeed, and they don’t follow the traffic rules and regulations,’’ he decried.
By the time we filed this story, we couldn’t get a comment from Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson; however, police from Buliisa CPS rushed to the scene and conveyed the body to Buliisa General Hospital Mortuary.
The increasing accidents in Buliisa district have been attributed to the construction of oil roads and roaming domestic animals, mostly cows.
In March last year, the Nation Group Media correspondent, Andrew Mugati, also died shortly after reportedly knocking on a cow in Kigwera subcounty.
In November of the same year, an official attached to the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) also perished in an accident in Bugoigo along the same road.
In November 2022, four people died in an accident that happened at Waaki Bridge along the Hoima-Buliisa Road in the Buliisa district.
The accident involved a trailer registration number of KBT 426K/ZE 0752 and a motorcycle registration number of UFS 150G Bajaj.
The incident happened after the trailer failed to negotiate the sharp corner on the bridge due to overspeeding and swerved off the road, from where it rammed into a motorcycle, killing the rider and another pedestrian.
Both the driver and the turner died when the trailer eventually lost control and overturned.
