TotalEnergies launches 4th Mini League in Buliisa

He also challenged participating footballers to balance sports with education, noting that football alone may not guarantee their future success.

Buliisa: Buliisa District stakeholders have commended TotalEnergies EP Uganda for its continued support towards nurturing young football talent through the annual TotalEnergies Mini League.

The stakeholders say the initiative is promoting sports, identifying talent and contributing to community development by providing young people with opportunities to develop their football skills.

The remarks were made on Saturday during the official launch of the fourth edition of the 2026 TotalEnergies Mini League at Biiso Primary School playgrounds in Buliisa District.

Speaking on behalf of the chief guest, Buliisa District LC5 Chairperson Wandera Atuhairwe Atwairi Wat, the district secretary for education, health and community-based services, Innocent Abigaba, commended TotalEnergies for its continued investment in sports development.

Abigaba, who also represents Wanseko Town Council as a male district councillor, urged other non-governmental organisations operating in Buliisa to emulate the company by supporting initiatives that benefit local communities.

He also challenged participating footballers to balance sports with education, noting that football alone may not guarantee their future success.

Abigaba said education would equip the young players with communication skills and enable them to interact effectively with people from different backgrounds.

Meanwhile, Buliisa District Sports Officer and Acting Inspector of Schools Godfrey Muhumuza applauded TotalEnergies EP Uganda for supporting infrastructure development and nurturing local talent through sports.

Muhumuza said the company’s interventions had created a lasting legacy in the district. He called on TotalEnergies to strengthen its support for school-going children to help them identify and develop their talents at an early age.

Arthur Agaba, the Vice-Chairperson of Buliisa District Football Association, congratulated the teams that qualified for the last 16 and received full sets of jerseys.

Agaba urged the beneficiary clubs to take good care of the donated sports kits so they could continue using them in future competitions.

TotalEnergies EP Uganda Operations Safety Lead Officer Gonzaga Tumuhaise reaffirmed the company’s commitment to empowering communities in its host district through sports.

Tumuhaise said the tournament, which started in 2015, had so far attracted 700 men’s and women’s football clubs.

During the launch, 24 football clubs, comprising eight women’s teams and 16 men’s teams, received sports kits, jerseys, footballs, training equipment and first-aid supplies from TotalEnergies EP Uganda.

In the women’s competition, Biiso Queens defeated Walukuba Kisinja 4–2 in a penalty shootout after a goalless draw in normal time.

In the men’s semi-finals, Kisomere Nile Hotspurs edged Butiaba Young Red Scorpion 5–4 in a penalty shootout following a 1–1 draw at full time.

Kisomere Nile Hotspurs consequently booked a place in the grand finale scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Kisiabi Primary School playgrounds.
