Mbarara man injures wife in alleged attempted murder

Kasasira added that the suspect is awaiting assessment of his mental status as part of the ongoing inquiries.

Mbarara: Police in Mbarara City South Division are investigating a case of attempted murder after a 53-year-old businesswoman was allegedly attacked and injured by her husband following a domestic dispute.

The victim has been identified as Nuwagaba Rossette, a resident of Rwemirinzi Cell, Nyamitanga Division in Mbarara City.

According to police, the incident occurred on September 8, 2026, after Rossette reportedly returned from her village and found her husband, Nuwagaba Alex, in the house with another woman.

Police say the discovery angered Rossette, prompting her to order her husband to leave the house, which she reportedly rents.

In the process, Rossette allegedly discovered that her television was missing from the house. Police said she then grabbed her husband’s bag, after which he allegedly picked up a panga and attacked her.

Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson SP Samson Kasasira said the victim sustained injuries to her head and hand.

“It is alleged that during the process of chasing her husband from the house, the victim realised that her television was missing. She grabbed the husband’s bag, and the husband allegedly picked a panga and cut her on the head and hand,” Kasasira said.

Rossette was rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.

Police said the suspect, Nuwagaba Alex, is in custody as investigations continue.

Kasasira added that the suspect is awaiting assessment of his mental status as part of the ongoing inquiries.

“The suspect is already in custody pending examination of his mental status. Inquiries into the matter are still ongoing,” Kasasira said.

Police have urged members of the public involved in domestic disputes to seek peaceful and lawful ways of resolving conflicts rather than resorting to violence.
