Motorcyclist killed by Congolese-Registered Truck in Zombo
Police later towed the truck to Padea Police Post as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash continue.
Zombo A motorcyclist has been killed after being struck by a truck registered in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) along the Pakadha–Padea Road in Zombo District.
The deceased has been identified as Albert Onega, a resident of Zombo Town Council who earned a living through mobile chicken hawking using his motorcycle.
The fatal crash occurred at about 7:20 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Jupaloza Village in Serr Parish, Abanga Sub-county.
Onega was reportedly travelling from Padea Town Council towards Paidha Town Council when the accident occurred.
According to Adriano Ocamker Ethien, the LC1 Chairperson of Got Landi Village, eyewitnesses said the deceased was hit by an oncoming trailer as he attempted to overtake another truck.
“Those who witnessed the incident told me the deceased was hit by a truck coming ahead of him as he attempted to overtake a truck,” Ocamker said.
The truck involved in the fatal collision was bearing a registration number from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Ocamker expressed concern over the poor and narrow state of the Pakadha–Padea Road, saying it has made movement difficult for motorists, pedestrians and other road users.
He said the increasing number of heavy trucks using the road, coupled with its poor condition, poses a major danger to motorists and pedestrians.
Justine Oryem, the area councillor representing Serr Parish, confirmed the incident and said police transferred Onega’s body to Paidha Health Centre III for a postmortem examination.
Oryem cautioned motorists against reckless driving and overspeeding, particularly given the current poor condition of the road.
He urged road users to exercise patience and restraint while using the narrow and deteriorating route.

By the time of publication, police had not yet issued an official statement regarding the fatal accident.
The latest Uganda Police Force Annual Crime Report indicates that road crashes remain a major cause of death in the country. In 2025 alone, 5,383 people lost their lives in road crashes, translating to an average of about 15 deaths every day.
