Bunyoro MPs challenged to unite for regional development under NDP IV
“We need to actively participate in all the programmes intended to transform our region and ensure that Bunyoro fully benefits from the opportunities available under NDP IV,” the legislators said.
Kampala: The National Planning Authority (NPA), together with the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), has called on Members of Parliament from the Bunyoro region to work together to ensure that key development programmes are incorporated and effectively implemented under the Fourth National Development Plan (NDP IV).
The call was made on Thursday during a meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister, bringing together members of the Bunyoro Parliamentary Caucus, the State Minister for Bunyoro Affairs and other stakeholders to discuss the region’s development priorities.
During the meeting, officials noted that several programmes intended to transform Bunyoro have not been fully implemented due to inadequate coordination among leaders and stakeholders.
They stressed that improved cooperation and joint planning would help ensure that priority programmes in roads, health, education, agriculture and the oil and gas sector are captured and adequately funded under NDP IV.
“There is a need for leaders from Bunyoro to work together and ensure that the region’s development priorities are properly integrated into the National Development Plan,” officials said during the meeting.
The Bunyoro legislators, led by the Chairperson of the Bunyoro Parliamentary Forum and Buyaga East MP, Dr Emily Kugonza, pledged to unite and jointly lobby for increased budget allocations and development opportunities for the region.
Other legislators who attended the meeting included Hoima City Woman MP Asinansi Nyakato, Masindi Municipality MP Byamukama Rogers, Buhaguzi County MP Steven Assega and Buruli County MP Ronaled Aled Akugizibwe.
State Minister for Bunyoro Affairs Mary Mugasa Akiiki said leaders from the region must put aside differences and jointly push for the full implementation of Bunyoro’s development programmes during the NDP IV period.
“The development of Bunyoro requires a united approach. Our leaders must work together and speak with one voice to ensure that the programmes meant for our people are implemented,” Mugasa said.
Meanwhile, Hoima District Woman MP Beatrice Wembabazi, Bugahya County MP Pius Wakabi and Bujenje County MP Kenneth Kiza Nyendwoha said it was time for both leaders and the people of Bunyoro to actively participate in development programmes.
They argued that greater participation and unity among political leaders, government institutions and communities would help the region achieve development in line with the expectations of its people.
“We need to actively participate in all the programmes intended to transform our region and ensure that Bunyoro fully benefits from the opportunities available under NDP IV,” the legislators said.
The stakeholders are expected to meet again to further deliberate on strategies aimed at implementing the Bunyoro-Kitara development agenda and ensuring that the region’s priorities receive adequate attention under NDP IV.
