Government to issue free land titles to residents in Kagadi

"I thank the Uganda Land Commission for listening to our appeal. I urge the commission to expedite the verification process so that title issuance can begin as soon as possible," Twesige said.

Kagadi: The government, through the Uganda Land Commission (ULC), has announced plans to issue free land titles to residents occupying 1,189.3 acres of land in nine villages in Buyaga East Constituency, Kagadi District.

The announcement was made by Uganda Land Commission Commissioner Johnfisher Kansenge during a community sensitization meeting held at Kyomukama Trading Centre in Kagadi Town Council. The meeting brought together district leaders, Uganda Land Commission officials, local leaders, and residents occupying Plot 9, Block 53.

Kansenge said the government, through the Uganda Land Fund, compensated the family of the late Jackson Lubwama, the former registered proprietor of the land, clearing the way for the current occupants to obtain legal ownership.

“The government has already compensated the registered landowner through the Uganda Land Fund. We are now verifying the rightful occupants so that they can receive land titles free of charge,” Kansenge said.

The beneficiaries are residents from Kijonjomi, Nyangereka, Kyomukama A, Kyomukama B, Ihura A, Ihura B, and Kigangazi Cell in Kagadi Town Council and Isunga Sub-county.

Kansenge urged all beneficiaries to cooperate with officials during the verification and registration exercise to ensure a smooth and transparent process.

Buyaga East Member of Parliament Stephen Twesige commended the Uganda Land Commission for responding to his request to secure land titles for residents without charging them.

“I thank the Uganda Land Commission for listening to our appeal. I urge the commission to expedite the verification process so that title issuance can begin as soon as possible,” Twesige said.

Kagadi District Woman MP Margaret Nasiiwa encouraged beneficiaries to retain and productively utilize their land instead of selling it after receiving the titles.

“Please do not sell your land once you receive the titles. Use it to improve household incomes and secure a better future for your families,” she advised.

Kagadi Resident District Commissioner Caroline Nashemeza and Kagadi District LC5 Chairperson Elly Gard Tumusiime welcomed the initiative, thanking President Yoweri Museveni and the government for facilitating secure land ownership for the affected communities.

Residents who attended the meeting welcomed the government’s intervention, saying the issuance of land titles would provide security of tenure, encourage investment, and protect them from the fear of eviction.

The planned exercise is expected to benefit hundreds of households by formalizing land ownership and promoting sustainable socio-economic development in the area.
