Two arrested in Nebbi with military, government stores

Authorities have not yet disclosed how the suspects obtained the recovered items, but investigations are ongoing to establish their source and intended use.

Nebbi: Territorial police in Nebbi District are investigating two suspects arrested during a joint intelligence-led operation for allegedly being in possession of military and government stores.

The operation was conducted on June 19, 2026, by a combined security team comprising the Uganda Police Force, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Special Forces Command (SFC), the Internal Security Organisation (ISO), the Defence Intelligence and Security (DIS), and local leaders in Nebbi Municipality.

According to SSP Josephine Angucia, the West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson, the operation targeted the residence of Obedgiu Isaac and another suspect identified only as Cosmas.

During the search, security personnel recovered assorted military and government items, including binoculars, handcuffs, military footwear, marijuana, and other suspected government stores.

“The operation was intelligence-led and conducted jointly by Police, UPDF (SFC), ISO, DIS and local leaders. During the search, assorted military and government stores were recovered from the suspects,” Angucia said.

She confirmed that the two suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.

“The two are being investigated and upon sanctioning their case file, they will be taken to court to answer to the charge of being in possession of military and government stores,” Angucia added.

The recovered items have been retained as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.

Police have appealed to members of the public to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing information about individuals suspected of engaging in criminal activities.

“We urge the general public to continue sharing information on suspected criminals and their unlawful activities to enable arrests and prosecutions and help maintain security within our communities,” Angucia said.

Authorities have not yet disclosed how the suspects obtained the recovered items, but investigations are ongoing to establish their source and intended use.

The arrest comes amid continued joint security operations across the West Nile sub-region aimed at combating crime and preventing the illegal possession of government and military property.

Some of the recovered items included binoculars, handcuffs, military footwear, marijuana, and other suspected government stores, according to police.
