Mbale money lender dismisses claims of Shs13 Million debt against MP Omoding

He further stated that he has no dispute whatsoever with the legislator and believes the allegations are being spread by individuals seeking to tarnish Omoding's reputation.

Mbale: A prominent Mbale City money lender has dismissed reports alleging that Serere County Member of Parliament, Emmanuel Omoding, failed to repay a loan of Shs13 million.

Speaking during a press briefing held in Mbale on June 20, 2026, businessman and money lender James Masaba described as false an online article that claimed the legislator had been dragged to court over the alleged debt.

Masaba said he was surprised to learn of reports suggesting that Omoding owed him money and had failed to repay the loan.

“I got shocked when I learnt that someone wrote an article accusing Hon. Omoding of failing to pay my money amounting to Shs13 million, which is very wrong. It is true that he borrowed Shs13 million from me during his campaigns, but he cleared the debt even before he was sworn in,” Masaba said.

He further stated that he has no dispute whatsoever with the legislator and believes the allegations are being spread by individuals seeking to tarnish Omoding’s reputation.

“I don’t have any issue with MP Omoding. He has been my friend and we remain friends. I believe those spreading such information are fighting him for no reason. I want to make it clear that I did not go to court or instruct any law firm to sue him. My money was paid outside court,” Masaba added.

The clarification follows the circulation of an online article and social media posts alleging that the Serere legislator, who is also associated with Impact Ministries, had been sued in the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Mbale over an unpaid private loan of Shs13 million.

Responding to the allegations, Omoding’s political assistant, Simon Ojatum, welcomed Masaba’s clarification and maintained that the legislator had done nothing wrong.

“I am happy that the person they claimed was accusing Hon. Omoding is here today to clear the circulating allegations. As a pastor, we pray that God takes control over those spreading such information,” Pastor Ojatum said.

The latest development appears to contradict claims that had circulated online regarding the alleged debt dispute, with Masaba insisting that the loan was fully settled and that no legal action was ever initiated against the legislator.

Neither court records nor any formal legal proceedings were presented during the briefing to support the allegations that Omoding had been sued over the matter.
