Buliisa inmates discover murdered boda boda rider’s body in bush

Buliisa: Police in Buliisa District have launched investigations into the suspected murder of a boda boda rider whose body was discovered in a bush by inmates attached to Biiso Prisons.
The deceased has been identified as Gilbert Isingoma, a resident of Booma Village in Butiaba Sub-county, Buliisa District. His body was found in Kanyaranyara Cell, Kahemura Ward, Biiso Town Council on land belonging to former Buliisa County Member of Parliament, Stephen Birahwa Mukitale.
According to Solomon Mugisa, the Albertine North Regional Community Liaison Officer and Acting Police Spokesperson, the deceased is suspected to have been murdered before his motorcycle was stolen by the assailants.
“We have commenced investigations under SD Reference 15/09/06/2026 registered at Biiso Police Station. The exact date and time when the incident occurred have not yet been established,” Mugisa said.
Mugisa explained that the body was discovered on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at about 10:00 a.m. by two inmates from Biiso Prisons who were carrying out activities in the area.
“It is alleged that two inmates from Biiso Prisons found the body in a cassava plantation located about 200 metres off the Biiso–Hoima Road near Biiso Memorial Secondary School,” he said.
Police investigations indicate that several items belonging to the deceased were recovered near the scene. “The deceased’s open shoes, a red cap and motorcycle repair tools were found about 20 metres from the body,” Mugisa revealed.
He added that the deceased was later identified by the Gombolola Internal Security Officer (GISO) of Butiaba Sub-county, who confirmed that Isingoma was last seen on June 7, 2026, riding his motorcycle registration number UMA 137KF.
“The deceased was last seen while riding motorcycle registration number UMA 137KF. We highly suspect that he was murdered by robbers who later stole the motorcycle as he travelled from Hoima,” Mugisa said.
Police officers visited and documented the scene, recorded statements from the inmates who discovered the body, recovered exhibits and conveyed the body to Buliisa Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
According to police, Isingoma had acquired the red Bajaj motorcycle from Tugende on March 17, 2026. Mugisa said efforts to trace the stolen motorcycle and apprehend the suspects are ongoing.
“A team of police officers from Buliisa Central Police Station is revisiting the crime scene. We have also blacklisted the motorcycle on CCTV systems for easier tracking and inquiries are ongoing to establish the whereabouts of the suspects,” he said.
Police have appealed to members of the public with information that could aid the investigation to report to the nearest police station.
