Alur Kingdom, Zombo Muslim leaders hold talks to promote unity and development
He encouraged the new Muslim district leadership to promote both secular and Islamic education to address the underrepresentation of Muslims in professional fields.

Zombo: Leaders of the newly established Zombo Muslim District have held a high-level meeting with the Alur Kingdom leadership aimed at strengthening cooperation, promoting peaceful coexistence, and advancing socioeconomic development in the region.
The delegation, led by Zombo Muslim District Kadhi, Sheikh Abdullaziz Kassim Amin, paid a courtesy visit to the Alur Kingdom Prime Minister, Prince Lawrence Opar Angala, at his office in Yamo Trading Centre, Atyak Sub-county, on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
Kadhi Amin was accompanied by Zombo Muslim District Coordinator Sheikh Twaha Musa, senior officials Yasin Salim and Yasin Wodabong, as well as the Head of Kaal Atyak Royal Emissaries.
During the meeting, the delegation expressed gratitude to the Alur Kingdom for its support in the establishment of the new Zombo Muslim District.
“We are grateful to the Alur Kingdom and His Royal Majesty for supporting the creation of the Zombo Muslim District. This support has strengthened our efforts to serve the Muslim community more effectively,” Kadhi Amin said.
The Kadhi conveyed appreciation from the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Mubajje, to King Phillip Olarker Rauni III for backing the district’s creation. He also recognized the role played by Alur chiefs and the message delivered by the Prime Minister during his installation ceremony held in Warr Town Council in May.
The delegation briefed the Kingdom on the HALAL Farmers Centre initiative, a program intended to establish two subsidized agricultural input outlets in Zombo District to support farmers irrespective of their religious affiliation.
“The HALAL Farmers Centre initiative is designed to improve household incomes and create employment opportunities for young people across all faiths. We are seeking land to establish a model mixed farm that will benefit the wider community,” Kadhi Amin explained.
The Muslim leaders also appealed to the Kingdom to intervene in an emerging leadership dispute within sections of the Muslim community.
According to the Kadhi, a splinter faction aligned with the Kibuli Muslim leadership is opposed to the government-recognized Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC), raising concerns about possible tensions.
“We have witnessed incidents of violence in other parts of the country. We appeal for dialogue and mediation to ensure that differences are resolved peacefully and without bloodshed,” he said.
In response, Prime Minister Prince Lawrence Opar Angala reaffirmed the Alur Kingdom’s commitment to religious neutrality and peaceful coexistence among all faith communities.
“The Alur Kingdom remains neutral in matters of religion and will continue to work with all legitimate religious organizations operating lawfully within our jurisdiction to promote unity, education, health, and socioeconomic transformation,” Prince Opar Angala said.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the Kingdom would not support groups involved in violence, child marriages, or practices that discourage access to modern healthcare.
“We cannot support any group that promotes attacks on others, child marriages, or discourages medical treatment in favour of miraculous healing alone. Our focus is on peace, development, and the well-being of our people,” he said.
He urged the feuding Muslim factions to embrace dialogue, forgiveness, and reconciliation.
“Differences should be resolved through discussion and mutual understanding. Violence only undermines the progress of our communities,” he added.
The Prime Minister also encouraged the new Muslim district leadership to promote both secular and Islamic education to address the underrepresentation of Muslims in professional fields.
“Education remains the key to transformation. We encourage Muslim leaders to promote both religious and secular education so that more young people can join professions such as medicine, engineering, and other critical sectors,” he noted.
The Zombo Muslim District was carved out of Nebbi Muslim District and officially inaugurated in Warr Town Council last month as part of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council’s nationwide restructuring aimed at improving service delivery.
The creation of the district forms part of UMSC’s establishment of 17 new Muslim districts across the country, a move approved in October 2025 to better serve Uganda’s growing Muslim population.
The meeting concluded with both parties pledging continued cooperation in promoting peace, development, education, and social welfare in Zombo District and the wider Alur Kingdom.
