NRM EC kicks off nomination process for Kikuube LC5 Chairperson race

Kikuube: The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission has announced that it will begin receiving expressions of interest from candidates vying for the Kikuube District LC5 Chairperson seat on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
The decision follows a rejection by Kikuube NRM delegates of a proposal to handpick a sole party flag bearer for the forthcoming by-election.
Out of the delegates who spoke, the majority supported conducting party primaries to allow members to choose their preferred candidate, while a few favored consensus.
Kikuube District NRM Vice Chairperson, Vincent Opio Alpha, said it is important for voters to make informed choices after candidates present their manifestos. “It is good for the people to have their choice after candidates present their manifestos,” he said.
After consultations, Tanga Odoi, the Chairperson NRM Electoral Commission confirmed that the party will receive expressions of interest from eligible aspirants from April 29 until May 6, 2026.
He added that aspirants will later meet the party’s National Chairperson, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, a process that will help determine their suitability before proceeding to nominations.
Odoi further noted that since general election nominations are scheduled for May 25–26, the party primaries are expected to take place around May 20, 2026. He pledged that the primaries will be conducted in a free and fair manner.
Meanwhile, Rosemary Sseninde, the Director in charge of Mobilization NRM called for unity among party members during the electoral period and urged them to support whoever emerges as the party flag bearer.
State Minister for Public Service, Grace Mary Mugasa, advised voters in Kikuube to elect leaders who will protect land rights, safeguard the environment, and promote development in the district.
The Kikuube District LC5 by-election is scheduled to take place on June 10, 2026.
