Madi-Okollo: Police in Madi-Okollo District are investigating a case of attempted murder following a violent family dispute reportedly triggered by political disagreements ahead of the upcoming general elections.
The incident occurred on January 4, 2026, at about 6:30 p.m. in Otraka Lali Cell, Enyio Ward, Inde Town Council.
The victim, identified as Asia Patrick, 30, a Lugbara peasant farmer and resident of the area, was allegedly shot in the groin with a bow and arrow by his elder brother, Bulia Sunday, also a Lugbara adult from the same village.
According to police, the altercation stemmed from a heated argument over support for candidates contesting for the Lower Madi Constituency Member of Parliament seat, as well as disagreements related to village political mobilization activities.
West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson SSP Josephine Angucia confirmed the incident, stating that the dispute initially involved the suspect and their father.
“The suspect quarreled with his father before retrieving a bow and arrow from his house with the intention of shooting him. When the victim intervened to separate them, the suspect instead shot his brother, hitting him near the male sexual organ, before fleeing the scene,” SSP Angucia said.
The matter was reported to Rhino Camp Police Station on January 5, 2026, and registered under Madi-Okollo CRB 006/2026 as attempted murder by shooting.
Police issued the victim with a Police Form 3 for medical examination. Medical personnel at Rhino Camp Health Centre IV successfully removed the arrow on January 6, 2026, and the victim is currently recovering.
By press time, no arrests had been made, but police say efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend the suspect, who remains at large. Statements from witnesses are being recorded as investigations continue.
SSP Angucia urged the public to remain calm and exercise political tolerance during the election period.
“We appeal to members of the public to practice political tolerance within families and communities to ensure peaceful campaigns ahead of the general elections scheduled for January 15, 2026,” she said.
