15 nominated on day one to contest for MP in Masindi

“Campaigns will officially begin on November 10th. Anyone who starts earlier will be violating EC regulations,” Kakaire emphasized.

Masindi: A total of 15 aspirants have so far been nominated to contest for Member of Parliament positions in Masindi District, according to Gastervus Kakaire, the district Electoral Commission (EC) Returning Officer.

The nomination exercise, which began today October 22, at the EC offices in Masindi, covers all four constituencies: Masindi Municipality, Bujenje County, Buruli County, and Masindi District.

Kakaire commended the smooth conduct of the exercise and urged all aspirants to strictly adhere to Electoral Commission guidelines. He also cautioned candidates against launching their campaigns before the official start date of November 10.

“Campaigns will officially begin on November 10th. Anyone who starts earlier will be violating EC regulations,” Kakaire emphasized.

Among those nominated is Steven Wandera, contesting for Masindi Municipality MP seat on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket.

Wandera criticized the current leadership, citing lack of electricity in some areas, dilapidated health facilities, and communities sharing water sources with animals. He pledged to lobby for improved services if elected.

Incumbent MP Joab Businge, also seeking re-election for Masindi Municipality, defended his track record. He highlighted several developments during his tenure, including the construction of Masindi Hospital, establishment of Kihuuba Seed Secondary School, and inclusion of Masindi Central Market in the national budget.

In Bujenje County, Rogers Kasaija Wycliffe, also on the NUP ticket, emphasized the need for better infrastructure, education, and health services.

Meanwhile, Patrick Kasumba Paddy, running as an independent candidate for Bujenje County, said he seeks to complete unaccomplished projects from his previous term, such as the extension of electricity and government takeover of St. Joseph School.

The nomination exercise will continue, with more candidates expected in the coming days.
