UCMID program set to kick off in Masindi Municipality

Okwaimungu also urged residents to work closely with the development forum to push for policies and programs that benefit the entire community.

Masindi: The long-anticipated Uganda Cities and Municipalities Infrastructure Development (UCMID) program is expected to start soon in Masindi Municipality, following the successful induction of the new Masindi Municipal Development Forum (MDF) members.

This was revealed on Tuesday by Steven Bogere, the National Coordinator for Urban Forums at the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, during the induction ceremony held at the Masindi Municipal Chambers.

Bogere noted that having an active and functional municipal development forum is one of the key requirements for a municipality to benefit from the UCMID program.

“Now that the forum members have been inducted and understand their roles, all conditions have been fulfilled, and the program is expected to start soon in Masindi,” he said.

Richard Okwaimungu, the President of Masindi Municipal Development Forum, welcomed the development, saying the UCMID program will support major infrastructure projects such as road construction, installation of streetlights, and other urban development initiatives aimed at improving the municipality’s living standards.

Okwaimungu also urged residents to work closely with the development forum to push for policies and programs that benefit the entire community.

“The forum is here to work for the people. We ask for your cooperation in making Masindi a better place through collective development efforts,” he said.

The UCMID program is an expansion of the successful Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) initiative. While USMID covered 33 municipalities and cities in its first two phases, UCMID will extend to 15 additional municipalities, including Masindi.

The new municipalities set to benefit under UCMID include; Mityana, Iganga, Rukungiri, Bushenyi-Ishaka, Kumi, Nebbi, Koboko, Kisoro, Kapchorwa, Ibanda, Njeru, Bugiri, Sheema, Kotido and Masindi.

These additions aim to ensure equitable urban infrastructure development across Uganda’s emerging towns and cities.
