Eng. Jonard Asiimwe visits jailed Twinamasiko, follows up assault case

He is accused of assaulting the Prime Minister during the fracas.

Kibaale: The NRM Vice Chairperson for the Western Region, Eng. Jonard Asiimwe visited Onesmas Twinamasiko, the Bugangaizi East parliamentary flag bearer.

Twinamasiko is currently on remand at Kibaale Prison over allegations of assaulting Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.

Twinamasiko appeared earlier this week before Kibaale Chief Magistrate Nazifah Namayanja on charges related to a chaotic incident that unfolded at the NRM offices in Kakumiro District on election day.

He is accused of assaulting the Prime Minister during the fracas.

While appearing in court, Twinamasiko denied all charges and was subsequently remanded until Wednesday, September 10.

Speaking to journalists after his visit on Thursday, Eng. Jonard confirmed that Twinamasiko is in good health and that he is actively following up on the matter.

“We are working closely with the NRM Secretariat’s legal team to ensure that he is granted bail in time to enable his nomination for the upcoming general elections,” Asiimwe said.

He further reassured the electorate of Bugangaizi East that the party remains committed to supporting its flag bearer through the legal process.

Eng. Jonard also used the opportunity to warn against tribal and sectarian sentiments reportedly being promoted by some local leaders in the region.

“This is not the time for division. We must foster unity and peaceful coexistence among our people,” he emphasized.

The case continues to attract political and public attention, especially given its timing ahead of the 2026 general elections.
