FINALLY! NUP’s Kiweesi nominated as EC confirms 91 candidates in Masindi
The parliamentary nominations are set to take place in October.
Masindi: The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially nominated 91 candidates to contest for various district-level positions in Masindi District ahead of the 2026 general elections.
According to Abukakr Lubwama, the Assistant Returning Officer for Masindi, the nominated candidates are vying for positions including District Chairpersons and District Councilors representing the 18 sub-counties in the district.
The nomination exercise, which began on Wednesday this week, concluded on Friday at the Masindi District EC headquarters located in Northern Cell (Kijungu).
Lubwama noted that the municipal-level nominations will commence on Monday, 8th September, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. He encouraged candidates to report early to avoid delays.
Following this will be the LCIII Chairperson and Councilor nominations, scheduled for 11th to 24th September. The parliamentary nominations are set to take place in October.
Meanwhile, the Masindi District Returning Officer, Gastervus Kakaire, on Friday nominated Byarugaba Godfrey to contest for the District Chairperson seat on the NRM ticket.
While addressing the media shortly after his nomination, Byarugaba pledged to transform Masindi District during his tenure, basing his plans on a promising manifesto.
Ayebale Evelyn, the current District Female Youth Councilor, was also nominated to stand as the District Woman Councilor representing Central Division on the NRM flag.
Additionally, Tom Kiweesi was nominated to contest for the LC5 Chairperson seat on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket.
By the time of reporting, three candidates had been nominated for the LC5 Chairperson position: Byarugaba Godfrey (NRM), Wobusobozi Patrick (Independent), and Tom Kiweesi (NUP).
