Umukuka III forms education committee to boost learning in Masaabaland

The committee is expected to grow to 11 members, with more individuals to be added or co-opted as needed, according to Mr. Masiga.

Mbale: His Highness Umukuka III has established an Education Committee tasked with leading education-related initiatives across Masaabaland under the leadership of Bukuka.

The committee’s key responsibilities include organizing the upcoming Umukuka III Educational Conference scheduled for late September and mobilizing scholarships for needy but bright students from Masaabaland and beyond.

The decision to form the committee was made during a meeting chaired by His Highness the Umukuka, where it was agreed that the committee would handle both ad hoc and permanent tasks related to education.

The Education Committee will collaborate closely with the Minister of Education in Bukuka, currently Hon. Samuel Kuloba.

Mr. Napokoli Sam Sakwa was appointed the Interim Chairperson, a veteran teacher with experience in South Africa and Swaziland teaching languages, Mr. Steven Masiga the Secretary, a spokesperson for Bukuka and staff at Makerere University’s Department of Community Education. He holds a Law degree, a Master’s in Administration, a Bachelor of Arts, and a Diploma in Education, and is a PhD student.

Hon. Rev. Titus Kutosi was appointed Member, a lecturer at Uganda Christian University (UCU), Mbale Campus, and member of the Inter-Religious Council of Uganda while Mr. Wangwanyi, a Member, a retired primary school headteacher from Buwalasi.

The committee is expected to grow to 11 members, with more individuals to be added or co-opted as needed, according to Mr. Masiga.

This initiative underscores His Highness’s commitment to enhancing education and empowering youth in Masaabaland.
