SAD! 3-year-old killed while hunting rats in Terego
Asea appealed to all parents and guardians in the region to closely supervise their children:
Terego: Police in Terego District are investigating a tragic incident that claimed the life of a 3-year-old girl during a rat-hunting activity in Angazi Village, Angazi Parish, Omugo Sub-county.
According to Collins Asea, the West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson, the victim, identified as Alezoyo Vanisia, was accidentally killed by her stepsister during the activity on Tuesday at around 2:00 PM.
“It is reported that on June 24, 2025, at approximately 13:30 hours, the suspect and the deceased, who are paternal siblings from different mothers, went in search of rats near their home. The older child was armed with a hoe,” Asea stated.
While attempting to dig out a rat from a hole, the older sibling accidentally struck Alezoyo on the head with the hoe, resulting in her instant death.
Police officers responded swiftly to the scene, cordoned off the area, and initiated a full investigation under reference numbers TGO/CRB: 184/2025 and TGO/SD: 18/24/6/25.
Due to the suspect’s juvenile status and her medical condition reportedly suffering from epilepsy she has been handed over to probation officers, in line with legal protocols that prohibit the detention of minors.
Asea appealed to all parents and guardians in the region to closely supervise their children:
“We strongly urge parents and guardians to ensure that children are not left unattended, especially when engaging in potentially dangerous activities.”
