Heavy rain destroys property at Gulu University, residents nursing wounds

Gulu: Students and staff of Gulu University experienced a horrific situation Wednesday evening after a heavy rain accompanied by destructive winds destroyed and damaged a number of properties and facilities at the main campus of Gulu University in Laroo-Pece division of Gulu city.
Properties destroyed include five cars belonging to university staff and students; the cars were hit by falling tree branches; other properties were water reservoir tanks at Gulu University; meanwhile, rooftops at the faculty of education and humanities, the main library, and the academic registrar office were blown away by the winds.
Onono James Ojok, the Gulu University public relations officer, confirmed the catastrophic incident to this publication, saying the Gulu University estate management is evaluating the cost of the damages to the properties and report to the university management who will formally write to the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) to notify them about the catastropic disaster.
He reveals that the university disaster department is incapacitated to respond to the tragic disasters, noticing that the magnitude of the damages is too great.
OPM management also directed for a comprehensive audit of the damages by the estates department to quantify the loss. The university also agreed to inform government formally of the loss after a thoroughly report on needed resources to fix the damages.
Similarly, 6 people, 2 females and 4 males, all residents of Okang-ngic Cell in Laroo-Pece division, were hit by a collapsing video hall last evening, and they are nursing their injuries at Gulu regional referral hospital.

When visited by our reporter this morning, the admitted people were fairly responding to treatment, as disclosed by the medics handling the hospital emergency units.
Ojok Jacob, the casualty, told our reporter that he is feeling general body weakness.
