Kakumiro district official arrested following radio remarks
Following his arrest, Twebaze was transferred from Kisiita Police Station to the Kakumiro Central Police Station for further investigation.
Kakumiro: The Kakumiro District Secretary for Works and Technical Services, Elia Twebaze, has been arrested under circumstances that are still under investigation.
Twebaze, who also serves as the District Councilor for Igayaza Town Council, was apprehended by Kisiita Police on Wednesday night while returning from a live radio program hosted on Amazon Radio.
The program reportedly ended prematurely due to alleged illegal campaign activities and character assassination, specifically aimed at Kakumiro District Woman MP Robina Nabanja. Such actions are strictly prohibited by the station’s broadcasting policy.
According to Patrick Zimurinda, Programs Director at Amazon Radio, the station upholds a zero-tolerance policy on content that promotes character assassination or incites violence, whether politically motivated or otherwise.
“Our platform is not a space for defamation or political hostility. We made the decision to cut the program short to preserve our values,” Zimurinda stated.
While official charges are yet to be disclosed, anonymous sources suggest the arrest may also be linked to earlier defamatory statements Twebaze allegedly made against the same Member of Parliament.
Following his arrest, Twebaze was transferred from Kisiita Police Station to the Kakumiro Central Police Station for further investigation.
As of now, no formal statement has been released by police regarding the exact charges.
