Hoima launches farmers’ field school ahead of next PDM fund disbursement
The sessions will take place every Tuesday for two hours over a period of six months.

Hoima: Hoima district authorities have launched a Farmers’ Field School in Kibugubya Parish, Kyabigambire Sub-county, ahead of the next disbursement of Parish Development Model (PDM) funds.
The field school was officially inaugurated on Wednesday at Isaac Kaitwebya’s model farm in Bwizibwera village, where at least 50 farmers both current and upcoming PDM beneficiaries will receive training.
The sessions will take place every Tuesday for two hours over a period of six months.
According to district officials, the next disbursement of PDM funds in Kibugubya Parish is scheduled for Tuesday or Wednesday next week.
Speaking at the launch, Dr. Charles Kajura, the Hoima District Production Officer and District PDM Focal Person, emphasized that the field school aims to equip farmers with skills for large-scale production.
While commissioning the program, Alex Mwesigwa, the Kyabigambire Sub-county LC3 Chairperson, noted that the initiative will help monitor PDM beneficiaries and also facilitate market access for their produce.
Isaac Kaitwebya, who was elected chairperson of the farmers’ training committee, encouraged farmers with small landholdings to embrace horticulture, as it yields high returns even on limited space.
Meanwhile, Michael Kyakashari, the Hoima District Deputy RDC, urged beneficiaries to utilize PDM funds responsibly, stating that effective use of the money could encourage the president to increase funding to 200 million Uganda Shillings per parish.
Additionally, Brian Asiimwe, the Kyabigambire Sub-county Secretary for Production, acknowledged the positive impact of PDM on farmers who have already benefited from the program.
