Kitgum: Kitgum Municipality has transferred 6 out of 8 head teachers in Kitgum Municipality as they prepare to kick off the 2024 academic year.

Atim Harriet Okot, the Kitgum Municipal Education officer, says the transfer aims at system strengthening, experience sharing, and career growth.

She noted that some senior education officers were elevated to the position of deputy head teacher, and they are expected to be promoted to the position of head teacher if they perform up to the standard.

The reshuffled head teachers include Akoko Hellen Irene from Pandwong Muslim to Kitgum Primary, Akello Concy from Kitgum Primary to Kitgum Public, Lok Lanya V Bemar from Kitgum Boys to Pandwong Muslim, and Acan Doreen Shara from Kitgum Public to Kitgum Demonstration.

Others are Aryemo Agness Regina was transferred from Kitgum Demonstration to Kitgum Boys, and Acaye John Baptist, the deputy head teacher of Kitgum Demonstration, was elevated to caretaker of Kitgum.

Meanwhile, Mr. Opwonya Michael, the senior education officer from Kitgum Public Primary School, was transferred and elevated to take the position of duty head teacher at Panadwong Muslim Primary School, while Mr. Rubanagakene Titus, the deputy head teacher of Kitgum Public, was moved to Kitgum Primary School, and Oyet Jacob, the deputy head teacher of Pandwong Muslim, was taken to Kitgum Public.

However, Ocaya Julius Peter, the head teacher of Ojuma primary school, was maintained at Ojuma since he was left with only one and a half years to retire.

Also, the deputy head teacher of Kitgum Prisons Primary School was retained to cater to the school because the head teacher had since last year been arrested and taken to Katebeo to answer queries on the reason undisclosed to the media.

At least a total of 31 classroom teachers were also transferred.

Atim therefore confirmed to this publication that all the transferred teachers have picked up their transfer letters, and the handover of the office is slated for Wednesday (today) at various schools.

Kitgum Municipality has a total of 168 teachers, of whom 89 are female and the rest are male.

The 2023 PLE result released last week by UNEB put Kitgum Municipality as the best in the Acholi sub-region and in the fifteenth position in the national ranking.
