By 2022, over 550 cases of Nodding Syndrome had been registered in the Acholi Subregion, with 62 in Kitgum, 423 in Pader, 42 in Omoro, 8 in Amuru, and 7 cases in Lamwo District.

Kitgum: Two victims of Nodding Syndrome at John Baptist Odama Care Center in Pager Division, Kitgum Municipality, have been reinstated to their families.

This revelation was made by Acayo Milly, one of the caregivers at John Baptist Odama Care Center, while speaking to ugreports.co.ug on Tuesday, August 6, 2024.

According to Acayo, the center had admitted seven victims afflicted by Nodding syndrome, and two have been reinstated to their families.

She acknowledged that they had learned of the demise of one of the reinstated victims due to poor care provided by their family. The center now has five victims, but they plan to reinstate them to their families within a fortnight, as they have shown signs of better recovery.

Felista Abalo, another caregiver at John Baptist Odama Care Center, said that, by God’s grace, these survivors are alive. However, she added that these victims eat almost a kilo of beans daily. She stressed the need for better health care and medications.

The Global View Preparatory School Co-Director, Ms. Onekalit Lucy, accompanied by her pupils and teachers, donated items including soap, sugar, toilet tissues, clothes, and money to John Baptist Odama Care Center last Saturday, adding that the donation is part of their community service efforts aimed at extending helping hands to those in need.

She said that Nodding Syndrome remains a significant challenge in the Acholi Subregion and urged the community, especially schools, to extend similar support to teach the value and virtue of giving.
