Teachers challenged to embrace new curriculum

Apparently, Bwijanga SS has an enrollment of 559 students, and of these, 272 are girls.

Masindi: Adolf Kato, the senior education officer in Masindi district, has challenged teachers at Bwijanga Secondary School to embrace the new ‘O’ level curriculum, saying it’s the best for the future of the learners.

Speaking during the board of governors meeting at the school premises on Monday, Kato also asked teachers to regularly sensitize the parents about the new curriculum, especially on how the exams are assessed and the interpretation of the marks.

He argued that most parents and students are ignorant about the new grading system, which may demoralize the parents.

The education officer also called for teamwork between the students, teachers, and parents if the school is to move forward academically.

Kato further commended the board of governors for being visionary and having passion for the school, saying that the Bwijanga SS board is a unique one since it’s composed of people who have experience and understand the value of education.

He stressed that there are many boards that do not get time to discuss the performance and the development of the school, hence affecting the performance.

Speaking during the same meeting, Edward Karuima, the school head teacher, explained that though the school is progressing well, it’s still encountering many challenges, including the low attitude of some learners towards education, inadequate funds to finance different school demands, some parents failure to honor their obligations, a huge wage bill, inadequate infrastructure, and porous borders.

Festus Ngongaha, the chairperson of the Board of Governors Bwijanga SS, asked for continued community support, especially on the construction of the girls’ dormitory and other educational services.

He also appealed to the leaders to lobby the government to support the school with adequate infrastructure.
