Serere woman strangled to death after selling termites

However, the body of the deceased was taken to Serere Health Center IV for a post-mortem, as inquiries are still underway.

Serere: Police in the Serere central police station in Serere district have commenced investigations into the suspected murder by strangulation of a 45-year-old woman.

The deceased has been identified as Betty Ayango Alias Movit, a resident of Akudumu Cell, Osuguro Ward, Serere Town Council in Serere District.

The incident occurred on the night of July 26–27, 2024, at an unknown time in Serere Township Ward, Serere Town Council, Serere District.

Edson Obukulem, the acting police spokesperson for east Kyoga, says the report was made at Serere central police station via CRB 370/2024 by Mathew Emelu, 45 years old, the LC1 Chairperson of Serere Township Cell, Kakus Ward, Serere Town Council in Serere District.

“It’s alleged that on July 26, 2024, at around 1400 c, the couple moved together to pick termites; afterwards, they roasted them together and then went together to sell the termites in the trading center,’’ Obukulem said.

The police officer said that thereafter the duo went to the bamboo bar in the upper shops to drink up to around 2100/c and as they were moving together, the husband claims they reached on the way, and the wife decided to go back and never returned until the morning hours, when she was found dead around 250 meters from their home.

Mr. Obukulem also added that the scene was visited and statements recorded.

“Two suspects so far have been arrested for aid investigations and are currently detained at Cps Serere,”  said Obukulem.

He said the two have been identified as Peter Olila, 35 years old, a resident of Akudumu Cell, Osuguro Ward, Serere Town Council in Serere District (husband to the deceased), and Alfred Engalu, 34 years old, a resident of Akudumu Cell, Osuguro Ward, Serere Town Council in Serere District.

However, the body of the deceased was taken to Serere Health Center IV for a post-mortem, as inquiries are still underway.
