Kitgum: Residents of Kitgum district are reportedly praising Col. Opira Patrick Acellam, the newly deployed brigade commander of the 505 brigade in Pajimo, Kitgum district, for working tirelessly toward curbing insecurities caused by persistent cattle rustling in the district by suspected Karamojong raiders.

According to local leaders, since the Opira deployment in Kitgum in June this year, the area has experienced minimal cases of cattle rustling, and most of the looted animals have been recovered.

While meeting the leaders from the Acholi sub-region at the Baralegi state lodge in Otuke district in March this year, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni ordered the redeployment of the UPDF commander since those who were already on the ground were reportedly conniving with the cattle raiders.

In an exclusive interview with www.ugreports.com on Monday, Oryem Charles Olweny, the directly elected councilor V for Namokora sub-county, said that since Col. Opira was deployed in Kitgum, people are now settled in their homes.

Olweny commends Col. Opira for being a humble servant who is very simple and approachable, adding that Col. Opira is a field commander who is always on the ground pursuing the raider with his foot soldier but commands his office.

The politician added that Col. Opira is a good communicator; he responds to any phone call and calls back whenever he misses a call from anybody, and he doesn’t use English when communicating with Acholi.

Toodera Johnson Acellam, the LCIII Chairperson of Orom sub-county, says since the Opira deployment in Kitgum, the area has registered no more cases of killing people by raiders.

Col. Opira was recently elevated from the rank of Lieutenant Colonel to Colonel, a promotion that has been cherished by all the local people in Kitgum.

Locals believe that it was God who promoted Col. Opira Patrick Acellam on merit; hence, they are organizing a Thanksgiving prayer schedule for November 30, 2032, in Orom sub-county.
