Pader district to receive bonus for 18km road tarmacking

Pader: Pader District is set to benefit from the construction of an additional 18-kilometer road, extending up to the district headquarters.
The announcement was made by the Road and Transport Minister, Gen Katumba Wamala, during the District International Women’s Day celebrations on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Lakoga Primary School in Tenam Sub-County.
During the celebrations, Aruu County MP, Komakech Christopher, presented a white paper to Gen Katumba Wamala, highlighting the poor condition of roads in Pader District.
He also called for an increase in the population of the Acholi sub-region to boost production and urged men to reduce alcohol consumption and focus more on family welfare.
Gen Katumba Wamala, who presided over the ceremony, shared further details, revealing that the Puranga-Acholibur road would be constructed in the next financial year under a different contractor.
However, he clarified that the 18-kilometer road project would not cover the Lira – Lirapalwo – Patongo – Abim road network, as these roads are already included in the national road plan.
The District Women’s Council chairperson, Jennifer Apio, highlighted the need for additional Health Centre IVs and ambulances in Pader, underscoring the district’s critical health service needs.
Pader LC V Chairperson, Rtd Col Fearless Obwoya Oyat, also announced that the district had secured funding to fill staffing gaps and encouraged residents to prepare for new job opportunities.
He urged women to engage in productive activities to boost their incomes and enhance their economic independence.
The Women’s Day celebrations in Pader District also honored Colonel Suzan Oruni Lakot, a two-time UPDF representative in Parliament, who was recently promoted to the highest rank ever attained by a woman from greater Northern Uganda in the UPDF.
