Nwoya Woman MP, Co-wife Exchange Blows

In 2022, Acan was accused by Mr. Nwani of stealing 1.2 billion shillings and an ambulance vehicle a case that remains pending in the High Court in Kampala.

Nwoya: The Nwoya district police are now investigating an incident involving Judith Peace Acan, the district’s Woman Member of Parliament, who has been accused of assault and criminal trespass.

The altercation reportedly occurred at the home of her ex-husband, Mr. Amos Nwani, leading to accusations of violence and legal complaints from both sides.

Police have confirmed receiving complaints and have launched a thorough investigation into the matter. The case is registered under file number 06/5/01/2025.

Patrick Okello, the local council one chairperson of Alelele Cell in Koch Goma town council, provided details of the incident. According to Okello, MP Acan allegedly assaulted the wife of her ex-husband, along with two other individuals present at the home. Notably, Mr. Nwani was not present during the altercation.

“Our Woman MP, Judith Peace Acan, visited my village to confront her ex-husband at his home in Alelele Cell,” Okello stated. “She appeared to be attempting to retrieve a vehicle that her former husband had purchased for her, but it resulted in a fight with the co-wife.”

MP Acan’s car

In response to the accusations, MP Acan denied any wrongdoing, claiming that her visit was only to return the vehicle to Mr. Amos. “I did not pursue her. I arrived at my children’s grandmother’s place to hand over the car. When Achiro Jennifer, who is married to Colonel Koch, began fighting us with soldiers she had brought, Amos’ wife, along with her children and brother, joined the attack,” Acan stated.

She further elaborated, “The fight continued as we struggled over a phone. I demanded the phone and wanted to leave, but they insisted I couldn’t have it. There were intense arguments, with accusations flying back and forth. I questioned her about why she intervened and who had sent her.”

Local resident Yassine Opio criticized MP Acan’s approach to handling the situation, suggesting that she should have involved the police instead of taking matters into her own hands. “Acan’s actions were despicable. If her intentions were sincere, she should have taken the vehicle to Nwoya police or reported it to the police in Koch Goma town council,” Opio remarked.

SSP Richard Anyama, the Nwoya district police commander, confirmed that the police are actively investigating the incident based on complaints from both parties involved. “I’m gathering information regarding what occurred on January 5, 2025, around midday, when the honorable Member of Parliament brought a vehicle purportedly belonging to her ex-husband. A scuffle erupted, and both individuals are now charged with assault. We are investigating both cases concurrently,” Anyama stated.

This high-profile dispute has raised questions about how a personal matter escalated into a public clash. Notably, this is not the first legal issue involving MP Acan and her ex-husband.

In 2022, Acan was accused by Mr. Nwani of stealing 1.2 billion shillings and an ambulance vehicle a case that remains pending in the High Court in Kampala.
