Ntungamo RDC blames drug abuse and unemployment for increased theft cases

Ntungamo: The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Ntungamo Muchunguzi Geoffrey has decried the increased cases of theft within Ntungamo Municipality, which has put the populace on tenterhooks.
He said this on Monday as chief guest during the budget conference for Central Division for 2024-2025 in the Division Council Hall, Ntungamo Municipality.
Muchunguzi blamed theft on drug addicts and unemployed youths, appealing to the local leaders to use the local council systems to fight the vice.
He commended the technical staff of the Central Division, led by senior assistant town clerk Ainomugisha Coreta, and the political wing, led by Mugisha Robert Kanyate, the Central Division chairman, for being the first local council to prepare a budget conference in the whole district.
The Mayor of Ntungamo Municipality, Jacob Kafureeka, represented by the municipal youth councilor, Dalton Ainomugisha, urged the town agents and other law enforcers to be polite and express customer care while executing their duties of collecting revenue from tax payers.
Councilor Ainomugisha hailed the government for always supporting the local governments and urban authorities as far as development is concerned.
The Central Division chairperson, Mugisha Robert Kanyate, called upon representatives of the people to always express their views on priorities that will be considered in the next financial year (2024-2025).
Mugisha Kanyate revealed that the division has failed to effectively perform well due to delay and total failure by most of the business community to remit their taxes, yet they aggressively demand services.
He thanked the council, technical staff, and all stakeholders for their cooperation and hard work towards the development of the Central Division.
The senior assistant town clerk, Ainomugisha Coreta, thanked the participants for turning up to the budget conference, which is vital in the planning and budgeting process.
She noted that the Central Division has managed to hit the target of revenue collection of over $66 million, which has never been collected since the division was created.
The senior assistant town clerk, Ainomugisha, said that they expected local revenue of over UGX 263 million in 2024/2025, down from UGX 250 million in 2023/2024.
