Mob kills suspected chicken thief in Kitgum

The duo stole two chickens, a pair of black open shoes, a black backpack, and a radio.

Kitgum: A suspected chicken thief, identified only as Komakech, 24, from Pawidi in Lagoro Subcounty, was killed by a mob in Kitgum Municipality on Tuesday.

According to the Acting Aswa East Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), IP Oloya Joe, Komakech, and a second suspect, Gung, 27, a resident of Quarters Guy B Ward in Pandwong Division, broke into the home of Ocaya Bosco Okidi in Ginnery West Cell, Guu A Ward, Pandwong Division.

The suspects were caught with the stolen items, but Komakech attempted to flee the scene. After Okidi raised an alarm, the community pursued him.

Komakech was apprehended by the mob, who beat him severely. He later succumbed to his injuries around 6 a.m. Gung, the second suspect, was admitted to Kitgum General Hospital in critical condition.

Oloya stated that the suspects were armed with a panga and a knife, and both were known habitual offenders.

The body of the deceased was taken to Kitgum General Hospital mortuary, while Gung received treatment at the same hospital.
