Kakumiro: Residents of Rwamata B cell in Mpasana town council, Kakumiro District, have been saddened by the tragic death of a 14-year-old boy after drowning in the Mabengere swamp.
The deceased is Stephen Niwagaba, from the same area. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening.
Niwagaba was with other children who were sent by their parents to chase away birds from the rice gardens.
In an interview with this news portal, eyewitnesses and other residents recounted that the deceased might have suffered an epileptic seizure before drowning in the swamp, leading to his demise.
According to Fuligensi Balisigala, the father of the deceased, his son was battling epilepsy for a long time, which might have been the primary cause of his death.
‘’He has been battling epilepsy for a long time and i suspect to have been the primary cause of his death.’’
He suspects the victim may have lacked immediate assistance after the seizure, contributing to his tragic death.
Seperiano Kibuuka, the Rwamata B LCI Chairperson, urges parents with children suffering from such chronic conditions to always be vigilant and seek medical assistance to prevent such heartbreaking incidents.
By the time of publication, police had already reached the scene to retrieve the lifeless body of Niwagaba.
