Minister Aber donates Shs35mln to Kitgum Main Market Vendors

She reaffirmed her commitment to supporting small-scale traders, urging them to use the funds effectively to foster growth.

Kitgum: The Kitgum District Woman MP, Hon. Dr. Aber Lillian, who also serves as the State Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness, and Refugees, has donated 35 million shillings to support 37 different groups under the Kitgum Main Market Vendors Association.

The donation was made on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.

While delivering the funds, Minister Aber commended the hardworking vendors for their daily efforts, which significantly contribute to the growth of Kitgum’s local economy.

She encouraged them to embrace government programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga, which are designed to boost small-scale businesses.

“I appreciate the resilience of our vendors, who play a crucial role in the local economy. My support is aimed at empowering you to expand your businesses and improve your livelihoods,” Minister Aber stated.

The financial support was distributed among various vendor groups as follows; Kitgum Main Market Vendors: 18 sectors received 1 million shillings each. Beneficiaries included Fish Mongers, Green Vegetables, General Merchandise, Tomatoes, and Dry Produce vendors.

Owino Vendors Group which comprises of nine sectors also received 1 million shillings each, including vendors dealing in electronics, new clothes, second-hand clothes, shoes, bags, and Awaro, among others.

Satellite Markets in the Municipality which has 10 markets received 1 million shillings each. These included Monbunyu, Gangdyang, Quarters, Lulojo, Corner Mission, Labuje, and Cuka Ben.

The donation aims to enhance the capital of these vendors, enabling them to expand their businesses and improve their economic stability. Minister Aber reaffirmed her commitment to supporting small-scale traders, urging them to use the funds effectively to foster growth.
