Masindi musician who got 15 votes demands apology from NRM for ballot exclusion

“People now think I’m a joker or a comedian, but that’s not the case. Patrick Abitegeka Easy is not the same as Patrick Abitegeka. I was shocked to find my name missing from the ballot on voting day,” he explained.

Masindi: Local musician Patrick Abitegeka Easy, popularly known as Easy P, has demanded an official apology from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) for allegedly excluding his name from the ballot during the recent party primaries for the Masindi Municipality mayoral race.

The primaries, held last Thursday, featured six candidates: Robert Mugabi, Geoffrey Mukuru, Rogers Amanyire, Milly Mateeba Muhumuza, the incumbent Ronald Busiinge Kyomuhendo, and Abitegeka himself—although he claims otherwise.

According to Easy P, the NRM electoral officials failed to include his correct name on the official ballot. He says that while he was nominated under the name Patrick Abitegeka Easy which appears on both the national voters’ register and the NRM yellow book the ballot only listed Patrick Abitegeka, creating confusion among voters.

As a result, the NRM registrar, Moses Ogwang, announced that Easy P had received only 15 votes across Masindi’s four divisions: Central, Kigulya, Karujubu, and Nyangahya. Easy P has rejected the results, claiming they do not reflect his actual support.

“I’m not disputing the declared results or planning to take legal action against the party,” Easy P told this publication. “However, I want it to be clear that the 15 votes attributed to me are not mine. The name on the ballot was not the name I was nominated under.”

The singer and aspiring politician said his public statement is aimed at setting the record straight, as some residents have started mocking his political bid and questioning his credibility.

“People now think I’m a joker or a comedian, but that’s not the case. Patrick Abitegeka Easy is not the same as Patrick Abitegeka. I was shocked to find my name missing from the ballot on voting day,” he explained.

Easy P is now calling on the NRM party to issue a formal apology for what he describes as a serious administrative error that undermined his participation and misrepresented his support in the primary elections.
