Man shot dead stealing road construction materials in Hoima

The deceased was a resident of Buliisa district.

Hoima: Police in Hoima district are investigating circumstances under which a suspected iron bar thief was shot dead by security personnel attached to CICO Company in Kigorobya Sub County.

While addressing journalists on Tuesday, Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson, explained that the incident happened in the wee hour of Monday at around 2 a.m. in Kihungura village, Kiganja Parish.

Hakiza identified the deceased as Matinde Wadigali, 33, a resident of Buliisa district.

It’s alleged that at a CICO construction site, the security guards received information that there was a vehicle loading iron bars that needed their urgent intervention.

Hakiza said that by the time the security guards responded, the vehicle registration number UAD 123L was moving towards Kiganja Road, and when soldiers told them to stop, they refused, thus starting to fire bullets.

The regional police mouthpiece asserted that Isma Bategeka was found seated in the vehicle and very drunk, and upon further search, the body of the deceased was found in the nearby bush with bullet wounds.

The body of the deceased was conveyed to Hoima city mortuary; Isma Bategeka is arrested and will be charged with stealing iron bars; and the vehicle has been impounded at Hoima rural CPS.
