Masindi RDC orders screening of PDM beneficiaries

He disclosed that the program aims to empower people who are not in the money economy.

Masindi: The Deputy Resident District Commissioner for Masindi, Sanon Dhaala, has directed the Masindi Municipal Council Authorities to start screening beneficiaries of the Parish Development Model (PDM) Program.

Dhaala’s directive comes after discovering that most of the beneficiaries who were assessed during the monitoring were in the money economy.

The presidential representative disclosed that the program aims to empower people who are not in the money economy.

Dhaala also asked the commercial office to ensure that the youth were also considered since most of the beneficiaries who were assessed were not youth.

He, however, commended the beneficiaries for using the funds for their intended purposes. ‘’I’m pleased after discovering that the beneficiaries who were assessed had used the money for its intended purpose and that the projects were yielding fruit.’’

Ms. Nyangoma Robbinah, the Masindi Municipality Senior Commercial Officer, clarified that some beneficiaries haven’t received funds since they were not ready by the time they disbursed funds in both the first and second phases in March and October 2023, respectively.

She noted that in the next phase, they will consider the less privileged as directed by the RDC. Nyangoma further asked those who haven’t received funds to be patients, asserting that they are expecting to receive funds soon.

Beneficiaries speak out.

Moses Tibananuka, 27, a resident of Kabwarwana Cell, told the team from the commercial office that after receiving one million from PDM, he bought three pigs for 450,000 shillings, and the balance was for feed. As of now, one pig has already delivered eight piglets, and he is optimistic about getting 640,000 shillings.

Ms. Alinda Zainab, 62, a resident of Nyangahya Cell, asserted that after getting one million from PDM, he topped up 1.5 million and started a project of layer poultry farming.

Alinda stressed that she started with 500 chickens, thieves broke and stole 100 chickens, 30 died, and he gets about 120,000 shillings on a daily basis from selling eggs.

Ms. Kugonza Isabella, a resident of Nyangahya Cell, asserted that after getting one million from PDM, she had three goats.

She, however, decried the challenge of getting feed, especially grass, since it is scarce in town.

Meanwhile, 60 beneficiaries have been assessed so far, and the exercise is still ongoing.
