Kakumiro: A 66-year-old man has committed suicide in Kakumiro district after burning his house.

Benard Turyahikayo, a resident of Kitabona Village in Katikara Sub County, was discovered Wednesday morning dangling from the mango tree.

James Kweyamba, the deceased’s caretaker, told this publication that Turyahikayo, who was reportedly HIV positive, is alleged to have taken his own life due to a loss of hope.

‘’Turyahikayo burned all his belongings, including the hut he was living in, before committing suicide,’’ Kweyamba said.

The area vice chairperson, Alexander Yaled Sajja, condemned the act of suicide and urged the community to seek counseling and advice from friends or leaders instead of prematurely ending their lives.

Residents described the deceased as a quiet person who kept his problems to himself. They revealed that he had also lost faith in religion and had turned to drinking waragi.

At the time of reporting, the Katikara Police had visited the scene, conducted an autopsy, and handed over the body to relatives for burial.
