Kiryandongo old pupils launch fundraising drive to renovate dilapidated classroom
Tumusiime added that all necessary approvals and documentation for the renovation have already been secured, and the current focus is on mobilizing resources to kick-start the project.

Kiryandongo: Old Boys and Old Girls (OBs and OGs) of Kiryandongo COU Primary School have launched a fundraising drive to renovate the Primary Seven classroom block, which is currently in a dilapidated state.
The historic classroom block, constructed in 1971, remains one of the oldest structures at the school and has long served as a cornerstone of its infrastructure. However, its deteriorating condition has made it unsuitable for effective learning, prompting urgent calls for renovation.
The fundraising event, held over the weekend, attracted former students, local leaders, and well-wishers, all committed to improving the school’s learning environment.
Speaking at the event, the chairperson of the fundraising drive, Tumusiime Herbert, an old boy of the school, called on all former students to unite and give back to their former institution.
He emphasized that the initiative is specifically targeting OBs, OGs, friends, and well-wishers, noting that it is not intended to place a financial burden on parents.
Tumusiime added that all necessary approvals and documentation for the renovation have already been secured, and the current focus is on mobilizing resources to kick-start the project.
The LC1 Chairperson of Kiryandongo I Cell, Patrick Kamanyire, who is also an old boy of the school, urged stakeholders to support the initiative, highlighting the school’s legacy in producing prominent individuals.
Ms. Mungurek Christin, a former student from the class of 2004, appealed to fellow alumni to remain committed to shaping the future of the school through active participation in the fundraising effort.
Mr. Asiimwe Francis, who studied at the school between 1964 and 1971 when the classroom block was constructed, noted that the building has long been a symbol of the school and deserves renovation to restore its status.
The school’s head teacher, Mr. Ogwara Francis, revealed that the institution has already received 200 iron sheets from the Office of the Prime Minister to support the renovation project.
