Kiryandongo councillor flogged on alleged orders of Amin’s son

Reports from Kiryandongo show that Kangume was later dumped near his home by his tormentors, thinking he was dead.

Kiryandongo: Security in Kiryandongo district is investigating reports of the beating of a councilor in the district on the alleged orders of the deputy director of the Internal Security Organization (ISO), Gen. Taban Amin, popularly known as Igwee.

The councilor, who was beaten on March 5, 2024, has been identified as Fred Kangume, representing Kimogora Parish at Mutunda Sub County Council.

In the video that has since gone viral on social media, Kangume, whose hands are tied with a rope, can be heard pleading for mercy from his tormentors, who instead continue caning him as they demanded that he apologize to the person who he wronged.

Kangume is said to have been beaten for fighting for the people being evicted from the land that President Museveni gave to the community, which Taban claims belonged to his late father, former president of Uganda, Idi Amin.

Reports from Kiryandongo show that Kangume was later dumped near his home by his tormentors, thinking he was dead.

Kangume, who by last night couldn’t reportedly talk, was reportedly taken to Kiryandongo Hospital but was later whisked away by relatives after his tormentors went looking for him.

Kiryandongo Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Jonathan Akweteireho, says security in the district has also seen the video and has dispatched a team of investigators to find out the truth about the matter.

‘’It’s true; we have seen that video also where someone is being caned; of course they are mentioning our village and district, and we are investigating to find out if it’s true and our teams are on the ground,’’ he added.

We could not get a comment from Taban on the matter at the time of filing this story.
